My Life in Mirc Part-II

Now, let’s continue, where was I? Yes, so as I had mentioned earlier we got detached from dalnet i.e. the #aizawlchat community after the DDos attacks .I was busy during 2001-2002 because of the new environment that I was in. The first year in a med school was pretty tough, lots of home works and a very hectic schedule from 8.00 A.M to 4.00PM in the evening. By the time our classes got over, we are thoroughly drained and tired lolz.

Ok, let’s cut that part, so in short I did not chat during those periods. When I got over with my 1st year, the 2nd year was pretty cool, classes were less hectic and we had more time to enjoy. So, I started visiting cyber cafes again. However I didn’t knew the server in which #aizawlchat was hosted in the beginning. I used to log onto dalnet however I couldn’t find any user until one day when one of my cousins told me that it has been shifted to a server named cyberarmy.net. So by the year 2003, I was back into good old mirc .when I first joined the server, I remember using these two nicks col^skinner and octavion. The most popular Sop at that time was a guy named C0deless whose identity I still haven’t known. I believe he was the same guy Tetea of dalnet .I remembered him well because I used to repeatedly beg op from him at #aizawlchat lolz. Since I was unsuccessful in my part of beginning, I and a few friends started forming smaller channels.

I remember a guy named Sandeep who used the nick N0^problem^4^ya, a guy from Assam who would come online at cyberarmy.net often .He was a more experienced user than I and we formed a channel named #aizawlteenchat and we would invite users from #aizawlchat into our channels by cloning several nicks. It was so much fun as we were so into developing our channels. Eventually as we kept going we would get banned often from #aizawlchat as advertising was prohibited. We also formed several small channels of which I can’t remember as of now.

During these times, I would often spend my time out of my hostel and camp over to my friend’s place. My hot spot was at a place called Katwaria Sarai in New Delhi. Two of my friends who were popularly known by the nicks Vaihmelchhia and Achha^guru had rented a small dark creepy flat .I would often spend my weekends and holidays at their crib if not at my local guardians place. So, chatting was again becoming a part of my life. There was a cyber café just next to their place and a hawker selling egg rolls, so you can now guess what we would be doing most often other then egg rolls for breakfast and mirc for the whole day lolz. I got familiar with the meaning of the word ck from there .

I would also access mirc from a cyber café near our college which was run by a Muslim dude named Salim. I would often visit his café in the evenings and would sit from an hour or two initially and then later even more that, I would even sit for 4-5 hours on certain days and find it was still short of satisfaction for the day. I wasn’t much in cking or private messaging users at that time, I was more curious with the mirc system, daemons, shells etc and most of all the IRC Operator concept.

I use to talk often to one of the services admins of the network nicked Condor191 who would discuss about shells and IRCDs. I would beg often from him and because of that he started talking less to me, so I started to read more on my own and discuss with some of my Mizo friends in the network who were also well versed with it. I can still recall a guy named curv, who was an engineering student who would explain many things to me about irc and its scripts. I was pretty well versed by the mid of 2003 regarding mirc. It was during that time that conflicts of powers started developing in the Mizo chatters community that would eventually lead to the rise of many smaller Mizo Irc servers and networks.

As far as I can recall, some of the senior chatters of #aizawlchat formed a channel named #aizawlteens .This was because of the fact that the channel operators were becoming more obsessive on their powers and several seniors were never given a chance to be operators, basically the fight for power slowly began. I also joined the channel and eventually  got the coveted @ there. We then began massive invitation operations to develop our new channel which was at its infancy. We would invite as much users possible to join from aizawlchat and it would grow very fast as it was a combined effort of many people. Eventually the operators of #aizawlchat felt jealous of the channel and  banned all the operators of #aizawlteens .From then on; there was heavy discontent amongst users and fights for powers which soon lead to the formation of many smaller networks.

I don’t exactly know how these other networks came into being but as far as I am concerned, in September 2003, I got a pm from a guy nicked envyro who told me that they were going to shift the channel to a new network named teenirc.net. I was surprised so I joined the new server and there I discovered a handful of users. Since I thought it was true, I hanged on and after I few days I was given @ in the main channel #aizawlchat.
And from that time onwards, my life in mirc would enter a new chapter, the teenirc era for me that is. So, if you had enjoyed reading this part, please hang on for the next part, that is my life and development in the network teenirc. Till then happy reading

  1. hmmm...I can see you're quite an old hand at mIRc :) Interesting memories you have. One wonders how you got the time to do all that and pass your exams too. Talk about multi-tasking, lol!
